The Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act, 1978 is a preventive detention law aimed at preventing acts that threaten the security of the state or public order.
Enforced through administrative orders by a Divisional Commissioner or District Magistrate, not through police-based specific charges.
Detainees under the PSA cannot apply for bail or seek legal representation before the detaining authority.

Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah appointed as the new Prime Minister of Kuwait
The Emir of Kuwait appointed Sheikh Ahmed Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah as Prime Minister following the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed.
The appointment follows Kuwait’s latest parliamentary elections on April 4, which led to the resignation of the cabinet.
Sheikh Ahmed, an experienced economist, has previously held key ministerial positions including finance, health, oil and information.

India allowed export of 10000 tonnes of onion to Sri Lanka
India has lifted a partial ban on onion exports, allowing shipments to Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates, with an additional 10,000 metric tonnes each allocated.
In December last year, the government had banned the export of onion till March 2024.
In August, the government had imposed 40 percent duty on onion exports.
Government strategies also include maintaining large buffer stocks of onion to stabilize prices.

World’s first beauty pageant for AI women announced
The first “Miss AI” pageant features AI-generated models competing for a $20,000 prize pool, judged on beauty, social media and technical creation skills.
This is the first time that such a competition is being held, and more is planned on fashion, diversity and computer-generated men.
It will also include Fanview, a subscription-based platform that hosts virtual models, as WAICA’s partner.

ISRO set to launch ESA’s solar study mission Proba-3
The Indian Space Research Organization will launch the European Space Agency’s new mission to study the Sun later this year, designated as Proba-3 (Project for On-board Autonomy).
The launch is targeted for September and will be lifted off from Sriharikota using ISRO’s PSLV-XL rocket.
Europe currently lacks a launch provider following the retirement of Arianespace’s Ariane 5 rocket.
