World Heritage Day: 18 April
In 1982, The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) proposed the idea of celebrating World Heritage Day.
The theme of this year’s World Heritage Day is – “Discover and Experience Diversity”.
Heritage monuments and sites are often victims of human activities, natural disasters and urbanization.
This day re-establishes the importance of their protection and conservation.

UNCTAD estimates that GDP will be 6.5 percent in 2024
After Moody’s Ratings and IMF, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in one of its reports has projected India’s economy to grow at 6.5 percent in 2024.
According to this report, it will remain the fastest growing major economy in the world.

India wins 2 silver, 2 bronze medals in Mathematical Olympiad 2024
The Indian team displayed exceptional talent and won 2 silver and 2 bronze medals in the 13th European Girls Mathematical Olympiad 2024 held in Tskaltubo, Georgia.
Contestants Gunjan Aggarwal and Sanjana Philo Chacko won the silver medal, while Larissa and Sai Patil won the bronze medal.
The team was led by Mr. Sahil Mhaskar (Leader), Ms. Aditi Muthkhode (Deputy Leader), and Ms. Ananya Ranade (Supervisor).

SPACE, the evaluation center for the Indian Navy set up by DRDO, was inaugurated
DRDO inaugurated Submersible Platform for Acoustic Characterization and Evaluation (SPACE) in Idukki, Kerala.
Designed by the Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory, SPACE will serve as a major center for evaluating sonar systems on ships, submarines and helicopters.
The facility comprises a floating platform and a submersible module capable of descending to a depth of 100 metres.

Under Surya Tilak Project, on the occasion of Shri Ram Navami in Chaitra month, sunlight was brought on the forehead of Shri Ram Lala at 12 noon.
This design with 4 mirrors and 2 lenses has been executed for Surya Tilak on 17 April 2024.
The opto-mechanical system at the site is implemented by CBRI. The device is manufactured by Optix, Bangalore.

He is also the second member of his family to rule the island nation.
Lee Hsien Loong’s father, Lee Kuan Yew, was the first Prime Minister of Singapore after it became self-governing.

India’s oldest Air Force pilot Dalip Singh Majithia dies at the age of 103
Dalip Singh Majithia, born in Shimla in 1920, joined the Indian Air Force during the difficult years of World War II.
He had accumulated 58 flying hours on the Tiger Moth by the end of 1940 and received the Best Pilot Trophy.
In August 1940, Majithia joined the Fourth Pilot Course at the Initial Training School (ITS) located at Walton, Lahore.
